From Dark Comes Light is a sound and visual installation that I recently exhibited in Berlin. It metaphorically explores the sound of the universe that is hidden but omnipresent.

A hypothetical situation based on an imagined possibility, manipulated to show the truth but presented as a lie that no one has ever experienced but knows exists.

A satellite reaching out, what a wonder to journey to who knows where, who knows care, does anyone care, is anyone there.

Everywhere is nowhere, as it is nowhere we have been but would like to go, isolation brings wonder, our ear lids are wide.

Before the bang it was black, then it was white, and so it remains, though energy fades, it still abounds, and still delights and conveys much. Continue reading “From Dark Comes Light”

Waldeinsamkeit

Recently I developed a soundtrack for a collaborative exhibition with Irene Cruz called Waldeinsamkeit, curated by Ana Sanfrutos of Circular Culture. Waldeinsamkeit is a German word that roughly translates  as “the feeling of being alone in the woods”. Not in a negative sense but by taking pleasure in being immersed in nature and its power. As part of the exhibition Irene Cruz present a series of photographs and a number of videos exploring this theme. For the videos I created a number of soundscapes and as part of the installation I created an immersive soundscape. Presented in surround sound it attempts on some small level to create a synesthetic experience while viewing these images and videos.

Recently I have started a collaborative project with Christian Graupner.  Exploring the edge between cliché and expressive language the installation FeeedBack5 opens up a field of experimentation to create a new form of inter-connectivity between video characters, sound generators and visitors / players.  It takes its inspiration from Jimi Hendrix who popularised controlling sonic chaos, & Robert Palmer ‘s 1980?s ‘Simply Irresistible’ video that parodied iconic imagery and stereotypes.   Exploring these cliches the multi-screen environment *FeeedBack5* extensively celebrates the female feedback guitar.
